About this Attraction

Located across the districts of Akishima and Tachikawa, Showa Kinen Park (Showa Memorial Park) is Tokyo’s largest urban oasis, covering nearly 1.7 km² of beautifully designed landscapes. This iconic park was created in 1983 to honour Emperor Showa’s reign, transforming what was once a World War II air force base into a space for peace, recreation, and nature.

Showa Kinen Park invites visitors to experience Tokyo’s changing seasons in all their splendour. The park becomes a wonderland of cherry blossoms in spring, with expansive lawns perfect for hanami picnics beneath the delicate pink blooms. In autumn, the park draws crowds eager to stroll through its famous golden ginkgo avenues, where vibrant foliage creates a magical tunnel of colour. During winter, parts of the park sparkle with enchanting Christmas illuminations, offering a festive atmosphere.

The park features an 11 km cycling path for active explorers, with bicycles available for rent at several entrances. Visitors can also enjoy rowing on the tranquil lake, savour street snacks from friendly vendors, or relax at barbecue zones scattered throughout the grounds.

Whether seeking a peaceful escape, a family outing, or immersing yourself in Japan’s seasonal beauty, Showa Kinen Park promises an unforgettable experience. It is a perfect blend of history, nature, and community spirit in the heart of Tokyo.
