About this Attraction

Located in the heart of Fukuoka City, Ohori Park (大濠公園) is one of Japan’s most scenic and peaceful urban parks. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, traditional design, and cultural charm. Originally part of the moat system of Fukuoka Castle, the park was developed in the 1920s and has since become a beloved retreat for locals and tourists alike.

The centrepiece of Ohori Park is its expansive pond, which spans nearly half of the park’s area. A walking path circles the water’s edge, shaded by trees and lined with stone lanterns and benches, providing an ideal setting for joggers, walkers, and photographers. Three elegantly designed bridges connect small islands in the middle of the pond, adding to the tranquil atmosphere and offering unique views across the water.

Beyond the pond, the park features beautifully landscaped gardens, a Noh theatre, and the Fukuoka Art Museum, which hosts classic and contemporary exhibitions. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom around the pond, creating a picture-perfect hanami (flower viewing) experience, while autumn brings fiery hues of red and orange foliage.

Ohori Park is also a family-friendly destination, with playgrounds, open lawns for picnics, and paddle boats available for rent. The nearby Maizuru Park and castle ruins further enrich this green oasis's historical and cultural experience.

Easily accessible by subway (Ohori Koen Station), the park is a peaceful escape from city life and a favourite spot for morning exercise, afternoon strolls, or simply enjoying a coffee while watching swans glide. Whether you're looking for relaxation, cultural enrichment, or a bit of nature in the city, Ohori Park is a must-visit destination in Fukuoka.
