About this Attraction

Located in the stylish district of Roppongi, the National Art Centre Tokyo (NACT) is one of Japan’s most unique and modern art institutions. Opened in 2007, the centre is built on the former site of a University of Tokyo research facility. It is celebrated as one of the final masterpieces designed by renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa. With its sweeping glass façade and wave-like architecture, the building is a work of art.

Unlike traditional museums, the National Art Centre does not maintain a permanent collection. Instead, it boasts an immense 14,000-square-meter exhibition space—one of the largest in Japan—designed to host an ever-changing array of exhibitions from Japan and around the world. This dynamic approach allows for continuous reinvention, offering visitors fresh and diverse perspectives on visual art every time they visit.

The NACT also supports the arts through public outreach and educational programs, making art more accessible to the community. Its on-site art library provides valuable resources for researchers, students, and art lovers who seek to dive deeper into the history and evolution of art.

With its spacious galleries, clean design, and thoughtful curation, the National Art Centre is more than just a museum—it’s a platform for creative dialogue and cultural exchange. Whether you’re a passionate art enthusiast or a casual visitor, NACT offers a visually inspiring and intellectually enriching experience in the heart of Tokyo.
