About this Attraction

Narangala Mountain, often called the "Golden Mountain," captivated me when I glimpsed its golden grass-covered slopes glinting under the sun. Just a short drive from Badulla, this hidden gem in the Uva Province promised adventure and an escape into nature's serenity. With its towering height of 1527 meters, the climb was both a challenge and a reward waiting to be uncovered.

The Journey Begins

Starting from Badulla, I opted for the Keenakale route, which is known for its accessible trails and breathtaking scenery. The 30-minute drive was a delightful introduction to the journey, passing through quaint villages and lush tea estates. The mountain stood tall as I reached the base, inviting me to take on its slopes.

The Ascent

The climb began with a gradual ascent through verdant greenery. The cool mountain breeze refreshed me. The golden grass swayed gently, creating a mesmerizing contrast against the backdrop of deep green hills. The trail was a mix of gentle slopes and steeper sections, each turn revealing a more captivating view. The hike, though challenging at times, was a testament to the untouched beauty of Sri Lanka’s highlands.

Reaching the Summit

The summit was a sight to behold. The panoramic views stretched as far as the eye could see, showcasing the Nayabadda Madolsima area, the Poonagala plateau, and the Namanukula mountain range. The sunrise was magical, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, a moment I wished I could capture forever. The calm and quiet at the top made it the perfect spot to reflect and connect with nature.

Responsible Climbing

One of the highlights of my trip was the emphasis on preserving the environment. I carried back all my waste, ensuring the mountain remained pristine for future adventurers. It was a gentle reminder of our duty to protect the natural wonders we’re privileged to experience.

Camping under the starry sky, hiking through diverse terrains, and capturing the golden beauty of the landscape made my trip unforgettable. Narangala Mountain was not just a destination; it was an experience that offered a deeper appreciation for nature and its wonders.
