About this Attraction
My visit to Mihintale near Anuradhapura was an unforgettable spiritual experience. Often regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, this sacred hill radiates serenity, history, and devotion. It was incredible to stand where Buddhism was first introduced to the island in 247 BCE and trace the footsteps of Arahat Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa.

The moment I arrived, I felt an undeniable sense of awe. Mihintale is more than just a historical site—it's a living monument to a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s religious and cultural history. Climbing the beautifully crafted stone steps leading to Mihinthalawa, I couldn’t help but imagine King Devanampiyatissa meeting Arahat Mahinda here and embracing Buddhism.
