My adventure began with a scenic drive from Matale to Rattota town. The winding roads, flanked by lush greenery, led me past the iconic Riverstone Pitawala Pathana, a well-known landmark in the region. From there, I continued to the tranquil village of Illukkumbura. This small village is the gateway to Atanwala, a charming hamlet just two and a half kilometres away.
The journey to Manigala starts from Rathinda village, a picturesque spot brimming with rural charm. Walking through Rathinda was like stepping into a more straightforward, quieter world. The lush paddy fields, swaying plantations, and the soothing presence of Thelgamu Oya—a river that serves the Atanwala community—set the perfect tone for the trek ahead.
