From there, I travelled about 7 kilometres along the Talawakele road, which took me through misty hills, tea plantations, and winding streets with towering trees.

For those travelling without a private vehicle, buses from Nawalapitiya to Thispane or Talawakele offer a chance to soak in scenic beauty at a leisurely pace. Along the way, the crisp mountain air and the sight of glistening green landscapes set the perfect mood for the hidden wonder that awaited ahead.

A Waterfall at the Crossroads of Two Districts

One of the most intriguing aspects of Kadiyanlena Ella is its geographical uniqueness. It stands right on the border between the Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts, making it a remarkable intersection of two of Sri Lanka’s most picturesque regions.

Monsoon seasons (May–July and October–January) can make the terrain slippery and treacherous, making it unsafe for trekking. However, during the dry months, the rocks are easier to navigate, and the waterfall remains a stunning sight to behold.

A Word of Caution: Nature’s Beauty Demands Respect

While Kadiyanlena’s remote charm is what makes it unique, it also means that certain precautions must be taken:

• Slippery Rocks: The rainy season turns the terrain into a risky path—watch your step and wear proper footwear.
• No Guardrails or Facilities: Unlike more developed tourist spots, there are no safety barriers, so extra caution is needed.
• Limited Accommodations: Nawalapitiya offers few places to stay, so most visitors make it a day trip from Kandy or Nuwara Eliya.
• Deep Pools: The first pool at the bottom is extremely deep, and swimming is not advisable.
