About this Attraction

Hirosaki City Apple Park (弘前市りんご公園) is a vibrant, family-friendly destination in Aomori Prefecture, Japan’s leading apple-producing region. Spread over 5.2 hectares, the park is home to approximately 2,300 apple trees encompassing about 80 varieties, offering visitors a rich and immersive experience into Aomori’s famed apple culture. From early August to mid-November, the “Production Experience Orchard” allows guests to try their hand at picking apples straight from the trees—a unique hands-on activity that draws families, tourists, and locals alike. There is something deeply satisfying about enjoying the crisp, juicy flavor of an apple you’ve picked yourself. While the apple-picking season depends on weather and growing conditions, the orchard remains a beautiful place to stroll any time of year, especially with scenic views of Mount Iwaki rising in the background. Beyond the orchard, the park features the “Apple House,” a shop stocked with around 1,200 apple-related goods, including souvenirs, local crafts, snacks, sweets, and more. Visitors can also indulge in apple-themed dishes at the café, where creative menu items such as apple curry, apple sundaes, and locally brewed apple cider showcase the versatility of this regional fruit. For adults, a visit to the Hirosaki Cider Factory Kimori offers cider tastings and insights into the local brewing process. Families with children will enjoy the large playground and open picnic area, making it an excellent day-trip destination. The park also hosts cultural experiences such as weekend storytelling sessions from April to November, where traditional Tsugaru folktales are shared in the local dialect, enriching the visit with regional heritage. Another noteworthy feature is the Former Osanai Family Residence, a reconstructed farmhouse that exhibits antique farming equipment, giving visitors a glimpse into rural life in Aomori’s past. The park is free to enter, though apple-picking has a small fee (35 yen per 100 grams), and it’s open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though guests may walk around outside business hours. Located just 20 minutes by car from the Owani-Hirosaki IC or by bus from JR Hirosaki Station, and with free parking for 460 vehicles, the park is both accessible and accommodating. Whether you’re drawn by the fruit, the food, or the folklore, Hirosaki City Apple Park is a wholesome, scenic, and culturally rich experience for all ages.
