Arriving at Balapitiya Beach – A Journey into Peace
My journey to Balapitiya Beach began from Colombo, just 90 km away. A smooth drive down the Southern Expressway led me past lush greenery, quaint villages, and breathtaking coastal views before reaching this secluded paradise. The drive from Bentota, just 18 km away, was even more scenic, making me even more eager to step onto the soft sands.
Upon arrival, I was welcomed by crystal-clear waters and a peaceful shoreline untouched by mass tourism. Unlike Bentota or Hikkaduwa, which are bustling with visitors, Balapitiya remains a hidden sanctuary, making it perfect for a personal retreat or a romantic getaway.
A Day at Balapitiya Beach – Sun, Sand, and Serenity
Relaxing on the Beach – The soft golden sands felt warm beneath my feet, and the gentle rhythm of the waves was the only sound breaking the silence. Lying under a shade with a book, I felt utterly at peace.
Swimming in the Calm Waters – Balapitiya’s waters are calm and inviting, unlike other beaches with strong currents. I enjoyed a refreshing dip in the clear blue sea, feeling incredible against the tropical heat.
Sipping Fresh Juice by the Shore – A small beachfront juice bar served some of the freshest tropical drinks I’ve ever tasted. The chilled mango and passion fruit juice were an absolute delight as I watched the sun dance over the waves.

Getting to Balapitiya Beach – A Simple Guide
From Colombo – Take the Southern Expressway, exit Dodangoda, and follow the Aluthgama–Mathugama Road until you reach Colombo Road. A final right turn leads you straight to Balapitiya Beach.
From Ambalangoda – Take the Ambalangoda–Batapola Road, turn onto Maha Vihara Road, then onto Colombo Road, and drive directly to the coastline of Balapitiya.
