About this Attraction
Ike Park (Shikisai no Mori) is one of Machida’s most beautiful parks. It offers visitors a perfect blend of nature, history, and family-friendly attractions just outside central Tokyo. The centerpiece of the park is Yakushi Pond, where visitors can stroll around scenic walking paths, cross the charming Taiko Bridge, and enjoy peaceful views of seasonal flowers reflected on the water.
The park showcases Japan’s natural beauty throughout the year, with vibrant plum blossoms in spring, lush hydrangeas in summer, and brilliant autumn foliage. Beyond nature, Yakushi-ike Park preserves crucial cultural heritage sites such as the former Nagai family residence and the Ogino family residence, giving visitors a glimpse of traditional Japanese architecture and lifestyle.
For a more modern experience, visitors can explore the Shikisai no Mori Western Garden on the southern side of the park. Here, seasonal flower gardens surround the popular 44APARTMENT restaurant, which serves delicious grilled cuisine. Next to the restaurant, a farmers market offers fresh local produce and handcrafted goods.
Just across the road, the Machida Squirrel Garden makes the park even more attractive for families, where children and adults can enjoy interacting with playful squirrels in a safe environment.
The park is easily accessible from Machida Station by bus or taxi, with parking available for those travelling by car. With its rich combination of natural scenery, historical landmarks, local food, and nearby animal attractions, Yakushi-ike Park is an excellent destination for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing and memorable day in Tokyo’s suburbs.
