About this Attraction
Katusu Konda, famously known as the "Knife-Edge," is nestled in the breathtaking Hanthana mountain range of Sri Lanka. The name aptly describes this high peak with its narrow, spine-like ridge, reminiscent of a lizard's backbone. The views from here are a mix of exhilaration and awe as the dangerously steep slopes create a thrill like no other.
Planning the Journey
My adventure began with planning the most accessible route to this iconic peak. Starting from Peradeniya, I headed toward Sarasawigama, a journey of about 7 kilometres. From there, I took a local bus, immersing myself in the area's vibrant atmosphere. The bus ride ended at Sarasawigama, leaving me to continue either by tuk-tuk or on foot. I opted for the latter, embracing the whole experience of the trail.
The Trek to Katusu Konda
The real adventure began from Sarasawigama, as the trail stretched another 4 kilometres to Upland. Walking along the rugged path, I passed a quaint little temple and a small shop—a perfect spot for a brief rest. Beyond this, the journey became more secluded, with just a few tiny houses marking the way. Finally, after about 2 kilometres, I spotted the narrow footpath leading up to the peak of Katusu Konda.
Ascending the Knife-Edge
The climb up the Knife Edge was as challenging as it was rewarding. The narrow ridge demanded focus and balance, but the surrounding views were mesmerizing. The lush greenery of the Hanthana mountain range stretched as far as the eye could see, offering a sense of solitude and connection with nature that I had never felt before.
Reaching the Summit
Standing at the peak, I was overcome with a sense of achievement and awe. The panoramic view from Katusu Konda was simply breathtaking. The steep slopes and narrow summit made it an unforgettable experience, and the effort to reach the top felt entirely worth it.
Tips for Future Explorers
