About this Attraction

Visiting Kadiyanlena Waterfall in Kothmale, near Nawalapitiya, was an enchanting experience that left me in awe of Sri Lanka's natural beauty. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the unique three-tiered cascade offers a sight like no other, combining tranquillity and adventure.

The Majestic Three Tiers

As I approached the waterfall, the sound of water cascading down its three distinct sections welcomed me. The first tier, an 8-meter drop, was a graceful stream of water, setting a calming tone for the experience. Standing near this section, I could feel the cool water spray, refreshing me instantly.

The second tier was a visual delight, with water cascading over a massive boulder, creating mesmerizing patterns as it interacted with the rock surface. The third tier, which flows under an arch bridge, was dramatic, plunging into a deep pond below. Watching the water hit the rocks and form smaller pools was unforgettable.

A Verdant Haven

The surroundings of Kadiyanlena are a testament to the rich greenery of Kothmale. The landscape was serene and refreshing, with a natural ambience that felt almost therapeutic. It’s the kind of place that invites you to pause, breathe, and truly appreciate the beauty of nature.

Adventure in the Cascades

For the adventurous, Kadiyanlena has much to offer. I couldn't resist wading into the shallow pools near the first and second tiers. The water was crystal clear and invigorating, making it a perfect spot for a dip. While I didn’t venture into the deeper pond near the third tier, its depth of around 30 meters made it a thrilling sight for divers.

A Hidden Gem

At the waterfall's base, I noticed a quaint structure known as the Kataboola Estate Powerhouse. Though it wasn’t accessible, its placement on a rock surrounded by water added an air of mystery to the landscape. It’s a feature that blends history with the natural allure of the waterfall.

Serenity Meets Majesty

The journey of the water from the three tiers to its peaceful flow into the Mahaweli River was a reminder of nature's seamless beauty. The sight of this majestic flow merging into Sri Lanka’s longest river brought a sense of harmony to the experience.

A Unique Retreat

Kadiyanlena Waterfall may not be the tallest, but its charm is unmatched. Each tier has a character, offering a distinct visual and sensory experience. The peaceful surroundings and the sound of cascading water made it an ideal retreat for anyone seeking to reconnect with nature.

I left Kadiyanlena feeling rejuvenated and inspired. It’s a hidden gem that I would recommend to any nature lover or adventure seeker looking to explore the serene yet thrilling beauty of Sri Lanka.
