Weligama Beach is a haven for those looking to learn how to surf, and I was no exception. Its mild waves and safe conditions offered the perfect setting for my first surfing lesson. Numerous surf schools lined the shore, and I was thrilled to enroll in one. My instructor was knowledgeable and patient, guiding me step-by-step through the process. Catching my first wave, even wobbly, was an exhilarating moment I’ll never forget.

What made my visit to Weligama even more special was the opportunity to witness the unique traditions of this fishing village. Early mornings were a delight as I watched fishermen skillfully manoeuvre their boats, returning with the day’s catch. The sight of stilt fishermen balancing gracefully over the waves was a testament to the enduring heritage of the community. Getting to Weligama Beach was a scenic adventure in itself. Travelling just 7 km from Mirissa along the Matara Road and taking the Weligama By Pass Road, I was treated to picturesque views of palm-fringed beaches and quaint villages. The journey heightened my anticipation, and the destination exceeded my expectations.
